GUEST POST - DAISYBUTTER

I’m so excited to have Michelle @ Daisybutter doing a guest post for you guys! Her blog is one of my favourites and she’s a real lovely friend of mine too! My favourite feature of hers is her ‘ways to wear’ post so when I thought about doing some guest posts whilst I’m away, her blog was one on the list! I’m so pleased she said yes, and this feature is AMAZING! I hope you like it as much as I do!

The skater skirt (£14.99, H&M) firmly remains a favourite as well as a staple in almost everyone's wardrobe this season, so I thought I'd share a few of my personal favourite Ways to Wear this garment. As a super lazy student, I know first hand how it can be all too easy to throw a skirt on, throw a vest/T-shirt/long sleeved top on and a cardigan, and leave the house, but there are so many ways to inject life back into your skater skirt, using a few simple pieces you probably also already have in your wardrobe.

Look One: h&m cardigan | topshop sequin tee | new look duffle coat | new look broguesWe're now in full swing of the autumn, so Look One is something involving light layers and a sweet duffle coat. With a skater skirt, you don't want to be wearing a skirted coat, by which I mean a skirt that flares out. This will only serve to make you look pretty wide (as I unfortunately discovered when experimenting with an outfit just the other day!), so go for a relatively "heavy" wool coat that is classic and pretty. I paired a pretty spangly sequin tee with this skater skirt, just to dress things up and add some life to, what would have been, a plain and bookish Look. Paired down with a burgundy cardigan because the colour combination would be perfection. Add brogues and sheer polka dot tights too, for a sweet, chintzy look.

Look Two: new look knitted shrug | truffle shuffle t-shirt | topshop fedora | topshop dalmatian box bag | river island loafersI love the easy, slubby feel to this outfit: it's something quite stay-at-home, yet wouldn't look out of place at a shopping date, coffee run, for University or even for a cheeky few drinks at a local bar. TruffleShuffle.co.uk is one of those unsung, forgotten gems for T-shirts, I am yet to peruse their collection and not find about twenty new tops that I want! Opt for something relatively monochrome, and tuck it in, because we'll be adding pops of colour with some knitwear and a hat. I'm not really much of a stickler for shoes, but these little tassel loafers pull the outfit together, especially with some really opaque black tights.

Look Three: topshop stripe jumper | river island boots | dolly bow bow bracelet | h&m ring | topshop lipstickMy final Look is very sweet and polished, made up of simple pieces. The knitted sailor stripe jumper can easily be substituted for a Breton stripe top, but c'mon, just look at the lovely cable knit sleeve detail, you know you want to go out and snap one up! Tuck the front into your skirt, and scrunch the sleeves up to show off a skinny strap bracelet. I'd opt for a very low denier pair of tights, which will highlight the laser-cut detail of the boots. Make-up and hair wise, keep brows strong, eye make-up simple with some clumpy mascara and winged eyeliner, and then some baby pink lips, and a fishtail side plait, which is perfect for everyday wear.I hope this post has enlightened you to some new ways to style a skater skirt. I especially like the second look, for how androgynous and slightly Taylor Momsen-esque it can look if the T-shirt is switched around. My personal favourite is Look Three with that gorgeous knit though!

I recommend you all check out Michelles blog if you haven't already!

  6. Amazing inspiration! I am one of these lazy students who just throws on skirt, shirt, cardi and ready to go. But I love the idea of glamming up the simple skirt with a sequined top :)
