SUMMER HOLIDAY SHOPPING

TOP // HAT // DRESS // CARDIGAN // SHORTS // SUNGLASSES // BAG // SHOES

In exactly 2 and a half weeks i'll be on my way to Morocco with DIPXO! My parents went a few years ago and loved it so much Dad has always wanted to take me. This year is my lucky year as he's whisking me away for a tourist trip to Marrakesh for 5 days and i'm so excited! Since losing so much weight since last summer (2lbs off 3 stone!) none of my summer clothes fit me which is awesome but expensive at the same time! Wanting to respect the culture I've bought shorts that come to my knees, t shirts and then maxi dresses for the evening which i can wear cardigans with. I know it'll be really hot over there so hopefully i won't melt and what I've got will be fine! I can't wait to go somewhere new and the fact the sun will be shining is even better!

Have you been to Marakesh before? Any tips?

  10. Lovely pics - my parents have just got back from Morocco, they brought back so much gorgeous leather goods, jewellery and smelly things (good smells). Oooh and Moroccan oil, that doesn't smell so good, but so nice to know you've got the real deal!

  15. You're so lucky, I absolutely LOVE Marrakech and Morocco ! If I wasn't so scared of flying I'd jump in a plane right now :(
    What I would recommend :

    - Some shops, in the souks for example, will be closed on Fridays, because it's a holy day and people will go to the mosque. It's better to avoid shopping on that day.

    - You'll most likely be hounded by some people (shopkeepers, fake guides, etc) stay but don't get angry. They're not mean, just very insistent. Be firm, and you might as well learn a couple of words like "La choukrane" (No thanks), or "Baraka" (Enough !). Also don't let women who do henna tattos grab your arm without your consent.

Now the fun part :) !

    - The food is amazing ! My favourite meals include : Chicken pastilla (it's so difficult to cook at home so don't waste a chance to taste it there !), Trid/Chicken rfissa, Keftas (meat balls), many many Tajines . If you have a sweet tooth, breakasts and patries are delicious too : crepes (baghrir or msemen), Cornes de gazelle (don't know how to translate, it's a crescent shaped cake), briwats, and so many more that I don't the name of ! And of course the fruits and vegetables taste so much better that in cold Europe ! The mint tea is not to be forgotten too !

    - When I go there I buy a lot of leather, jewellery, food to bring home (pastries, olive oil), scarves, clothes, beauty products (like rose water, argan oil, savon noir).

    - The medina is the old, traditional part, but if you want a more contemporary area, head to Gueliz or l'Hivernage.

    - As for what to visit, a guide will probably be much more detailed, but I love the Majorelle Gardens, the Menara, the Koutoubia, Jemaa el Fna. I've heard a lot of good things about Ben Youssef Medersa, El Badi Palace, Bahia Palace, Saadian Tombs.

-Marrakech architecture follows two main rules : all the buildings are red and not higher than 5 storeys. So there's a certain unicity that makes it very beautiful when you're on the rooftops, especially at dusk. The red walls, the palm trees, the snowy Atlas mountains in the distance...Definitely have a drink or a meal in a place with a great view!

    - Riads are so beautiful, I don't know if you're staying in one, if not, I'm sure you can visit some or go to restaurants there.

And just enjoy the vibe, the energy, the exoticism..For me, Marrakech isn't the kind of city with a ton of museums and monuments to visit, it's a city to experience. It's a different lifestyle, a different atmosphere. Despite the energy, I feel so relaxed there.

There are so many things to say but my post is long enough already ! Enjoy your stay in Marrakech :) !
